The past...

Its history began in the mid-13th century with the construction of the Donjon, a 23-meter-high, square castle tower. It served as a safe haven for the lords of Jemeppe. In the past, this region experienced many battles due to the struggle between the Namur and Luxembourg dynasties.

Jean D’Ochain, in 1280, was the first to take up residence in the château. Then the Ans family followed as castle owners. They continued to build on the estate and transformed the Donjon into a castle by adding three wings surrounded by a moat.

Subsequent generations added “La Ferme” where the stables were located, among other things. These families then built the estate into what remains today. Since the 13th century, only 4 families have owned Château Jemeppe.

Throughout the 20th century, the castle became dilapidated and in need of restoration. In 1997, restoration work began to bring the estate back to its former glory. A total of 14 years were spent restoring this castle to what it is today and what it was in the past: an impressive domain with a rich history.

In addition to the buildings, the entire estate has been brought back together as it was before. The surrounding woods and pastures account for 34 hectares bringing the size of the estate to 45 hectares.
